    When?
    10/02/2015 to 10/04/2015

The 29th Annual SSCA Annapolis Gam is shaping up to be another stellar event. The gam will be held at Camp Letts on the Rhode River in Edgewater, Maryland, just south of Annapolis. The event kicks off Thursday evening with our informal Heading South raft-up and then picks up Friday afternoon with a variety of great seminars. Seminars continue all day on Saturday.

Speakers to include: Lin Pardey, Chris Parker, Lee Chesneau, Dave Skolnick, Mike Meers, Chuck O’Malley, Mark Doyle, and many more. Topics will include weather, rigging, communication, sail repair, cooking aboard, and more. Roundtable discussions and demos will be held on Sunday morning.

On Friday evening join us for a Cruisers’ Potluck Dinner and Cocktail Party in the Dining Hall. Cruise RO will be sponsoring the libations, but ALL attendees are asked to bring an appetizer, main dish, side dish or dessert for six people to share. We’ll provide plates, plastic ware, napkins, etc., as well as kitchen storage for those coming ashore early in the day. There will be time to return to your vessel for those bringing food ashore later in the day.

Saturday morning you can enjoy a continental breakfast sponsored by SBI Mail Service and then visit and support our vendors who help underwrite our event to keep your costs down. We hope to have U.S. Customs and Border Patrol on hand to answer your questions and provide information.

Be sure to pre-order your box lunch for Saturday when you register

On Saturday Evening we will have a Cocktail Party, Dinner and Auction. Dinner will be proceeded by Happy Hour sponsored again by Port Annapolis Marina (drink tickets or cash bar, beer, wine and soda). Dinner will be a Down Home Barbecue with Chicken/pulled pork sides etc.

Following dinner Lin Pardey will speak on “The Compelling Power of Adventure.” We will also have the drawing of raffle prizes with a gala auction to benefit the SSCA Foundation (a tax-deductible 501 (c) 3 charitable corporation) culminating the evening. Though a limited amount of dinner tickets might be available at the door, attendees are strongly urged to purchase them in advance, to avoid disappointment.

On Sunday Morning you can buy or sell your marine gear on site at SSCA’s flea market (tables $10 each, payable on site). Roundtables and demos follow breakfast (breakfast is optional by advance reservation).

On Sunday afternoon we will offer complimentary Ham exams at 1 p.m.

SSCA will also offer an optional post Gam seminars on Sunday afternoon from 12-4 p.m. Lin Pardey will be offering a 4 hour seminar on Writing, Videos, Blogging – How to Make it Pay (more information below).

Lin Pardey to Offer Special After Gam Seminar on Sunday, Oct. 4

Writing, Videos, Blogging – How to Make it Pay
    4 hour seminar – $75 ($125/couples)

Can you top up your cruising kitty by writing? How do you sell that first sailing article? What will make your voyaging blog stand out from the rest? What can you do to keep people watching your videos or reading your blog?

Lin Pardey will share tips and ideas for getting published in magazines and books. She’ll tell you how to get noticed by editors, ways to present work that sells and ideas for expanding your markets.

A discussion of what returns you can expect for your work will be included along with the pitfalls and the practicalities of adding writing and photography to your cruising life. Book writing and publishing will be covered, including the realities of self-publishing.

The discussion on creating sailing videos and distribution realities is based on her experience as creator and co-producer of 5 successful DVD programs. Condensed versions of these programs have appeared on PBS and are streamed on Vimeo and other platforms.

Seven Seas Cruising Association, Inc. is the oldest and largest non-profit organization of voyaging cruisers in the world. The goals of the original founders are still the goals of SSCA today: sharing cruising information, camaraderie, and leaving a clean wake. For more information, go to www.ssca.org.
