William Toy still recalls the day he opened his dry cleaning plant for business back in 1950, Nov 7 – an election day.
75 years have passed, and many elections have come and gone, but Spic ‘n Span Cleaners and 40 years of Sail Care, Inc. can still be found at the same location, 410 Ninth Street in the small community of Ford City, PA.
In 1986, William Toy, a sailor for over 45 years with a sailing yacht in Annapolis, MD, applied his knowledge of cleaning materials over the years to sails for sailboats. “I have seen a few sails washed,” Mr. Toy said, “but nobody in the USA does what we do.”
Mr. Toy’s invention of the LaMauney Process (cleaning and re-resinate) restores a sail near-to-new. Plus, they do all repairs in their sail loft.
Sail Care re-stitches sunbands, adds new/replaces inefficient sunbands, modifies sails, and, if possible, modifies a sail that may be blown out from use over the years.
