In October 2015, I purchased a Richard Woods Elf 26 catamaran in South Africa. But it wasn’t until 2017, after a major refit in Gordon’s Bay, South Africa that she was delivered to Watamu, on Kenya’s Indian Ocean North Coast. That voyage took some three or four months of sailing over a period of almost nine months.

In the grand scheme of things, there are few items on a cruising boat that are probably more oriented to your sailing comfort than a dodger, but after a few rounds of bashing into the wind, sailing under the brutal sun, and combating squalls the dodger plays a major role in protection and comfort.
I like a good tiki bar and a warm sand beach as much as anyone, and my early cruising reflected that by focusing on Florida and the Caribbean. I still enjoy the tropics but over the years I’ve discovered that there are other cruising destinations that offer a different flavor of Margaritaville that really must be experienced, islands but not the kind with palm trees.
