I kept having people ask about “land sickness” and if we had experienced it yet since returning to Homeport. I thought “yeah I mean, of course it’s an adjustment” until someone older, wiser & more experienced talked to us about how your body will start to actually reject land. Somewhat mimicking sea sickness. But ours? Ours was not physical, it was all mental. Instead of my body rejecting the mindset of no longer swaying and bobbing, my brain rejected the idea of mundane land tasks and conversations.

Ready Enough: What It Really Means to Prepare for an Offshore Passage

I looked up and, for one frozen second, my brain could not make sense of what I was seeing. The rig was gone.  BANG! A moment earlier, the mast and sails had been above me, doing what masts and sails are supposed to do. Now they were across the deck and in the water, the whole mess loading up, pulling, thrashing, and trying to turn a bad day into something much worse.
