Our journey did not begin with dissatisfaction.
Pat was approaching the very peak of his corporate career in real estate and consulting, climbing faster than most and with recognition that promised a secure and influential future. And I, Frankie, shaped by an international upbringing and years of professional experience in architecture, real estate, and digital business, had proven myself as adaptable and ambitious in equal measure.
Together, we had built what many would call success. Yet we both felt a different call — not to accumulate more, but to create differently. We wanted a life with freedom at its heart, where choices were steered by our own hands. So we did what many only dream of: we walked away, sold our belongings, and bought a yacht.
The first 1.5 years: testing the dream
The sea, however, is no respecter of grand ideas. For the first year and a half, our days were defined less by sunsets and cocktails than by steep learning curves, moments of fear, and the constant need to adapt. We were inexperienced sailors thrown into a world where mistakes carry weight. There were times of overwhelm, even doubt.
And then came the damage. A serious, near-catastrophic failure that could have ended our story before it truly began. For many, it would have meant surrender. But we did not surrender. We repaired, rebuilt, and refused to let the dream slip away.
Resilience rewarded.
What emerged from that trial was not only a stronger couple but also a stronger yacht. Today, our vessel is more than seaworthy — it is reborn. Reinforced, improved, and in many ways better than when it first left the yard, it now carries us forward as both a safe haven and a symbol of what we’ve overcome.
