Sails & Spices: A Culinary Journey Across Oceans

Ahoy from Margo and Joerg aboard Sailing Kanoa! Over 7 years ago, our journey began in Spain, where we set sail on a voyage of exploration that has taken us across more than 15,000 nautical miles. From the sun-drenched shores of the Mediterranean through the immense Atlantic Ocean to the turquoise waters of the Caribbean, we’ve navigated our way through diverse landscapes and vibrant cultures.

Our passion for travel and our love for discovering new cultures and cuisines are the driving forces behind our adventures. We’re not content to simply be tourists—our goal is to immerse ourselves fully in the local way of life, and experience the world in all its richness and diversity.

And what better way to connect with local communities than through the joy of cooking together? As we sail around the world, we’ve made it our mission to collect recipes and stories from the people we meet along the way, each dish representing a piece of someone’s soul, a delicious story waiting to be shared.

Cooking with locals, fellow sailors, and newfound friends has become a central part of our journey. Each recipe we collect holds not just flavor and cooking tricks to make it perfect, but also memories and stories that we treasure.

One day, in the middle of one of the historical ports of Spain, our neighbor, 86-year-old Miguel Seaman, taught us how to make classic Spanish tapas on his antique wooden ship and told us a lot of small but important details that make the dish authentic.

From this moment in the charming coastal town of Spain, our journey began, and we set sail on a voyage that would take us across oceans and continents, searching for new horizons and unforgettable flavors.
