Schooner Living

By Robin Stout

While attending the Gloucester Schooner Festival a sweet schooner with a family seemingly having the time of their lives caught my eye. I had to meet them and thought you should too… here is their story:

Tell us about your family?
Carissa and I met a few years ago while working on a TV show. It was a very difficult shoot and we just grew together, it’s amazing and wonderful. I am the dad of two Eleanor (12) and Xavier (14), Carissa brough Norman (7). Included in this is my Zoomer, the best breed of dog rescue, and Postie (RIP) a very old foundling cat. Eleanor, Xavier, and I have always sailed from the time before they were born. Norman and Carissa have never really sailed outside of lasers on lakes. Originally I had a SouthernCross 28’ called Katrinka and she was a wonderful and able boat, but a little small for a gang of 7, so when the opportunity arose for Schooner Elizabeth to join the band we couldn’t say no.

Tell us about your boat:
We spent our time on the Elizabeth, a 42′ steel Thomas Colvin Schooner, she was built in 1981 in Ohio for cargo and fishing, she was rescued by the inimitable Jason Rose from being cut up in Connecticut. Jason’s plans were to charter her, however life got in the way and he chose through his remarkable generosity to gift her to our family. Truly life changing.
