The Life We Didn’t Mean to Love This Much

BY SAILING TELOS

I’m writing this while crossing the Gulf Stream back toward the United States from the Abacos. The sea is calm, the trades are behind us, and Telos is moving steadily northwest through water that feels strangely familiar now.

Two years ago, this same stretch of ocean terrified us.

In November of 2024, our family untied the dock lines in Brunswick, Georgia, pointed the bow of our Lagoon 450 catamaran east, and headed toward the Bahamas with far more excitement than experience.

What could possibly go wrong?

At the time, we were a family of six from Chattanooga, Tennessee, trying to trade deadlines, schedules, and the endless grind of normal life for something slower, fuller, and more meaningful. I had spent years working in construction before moving into custom home building. Life was busy. Productive. Successful by most standards. But somewhere along the way, it also became exhausting.

Then life reminded us how fragile everything really is.
